How to Plan a Mad Hatters Birthday Tea for Your Tween
Choosing a theme for your tweens next birthday party can be a daunting task. Many this age want to grasp a theme that’s a little different from the average birthday party and is something that guests will enjoy and remember for a long time to come. If this sounds like your tween then you might want to take a cue from Tim Burtons latest hit movie Alice in Wonderland and plan a Furious Hatter’s Birthday Tea instead of a traditional birthday party.
Don’t worry if you can’t find themed decorations for your Mad Hatters Tea in stores, most of the items needed to pull off this stout party can be made or purchased inexpensively.
How To Plan A Furious Hatter’s Birthday Tea
Invitations
A gigantic way to build inexpensive invitations that tie into your Exasperated Hatter Tea theme is to cut a large key tag out of cardstock and attach an mature key with a string to the key tag. If you don’t have any customary keys then just cut a key shape out of black or brown poster board. On one side of the key tag write or glue a pre-printed sheet of paper that says “You’re Invited To A Mad Hatter Birthday Tea” and on the other side write or attach a pre-printed piece of paper that gives the party details.
Decorations
A sizable decorated banquet table with plenty of mismatched chairs is a great focal point for your Mad Hatter’s Tea. Cover the table with a nice linen cloth and several different types of tea pots. Fill some of the teapots with the brightest, wildest looking spurious flowers you can regain and have a mouse popping out of one of the teapots and a hare ( rabbit) out of a second pot.
Set the table with mismatched cups and saucers and hot glue cheap plates together to create crazy leaning stacks of plates to put on the table.
Around the room make giant playing cards out of poster board and hang from the ceiling or stick at odd angles on the wall.
If you have pink flamingos insert them into a bucket of sand and place in a corner of the room.
You can make or purchase colorful lanterns to hang above the table for a festive look.
There’s really no right or wrong way to do the decorations for your tea so use your imagination. The crazier everything looks the better.
Food
Iced Sweet Tea and lemonade served in teapots and finger foods are a must for this party. Sandwiches could be cut into cut into card suit shapes such as hearts and spades, or you could produce individual heart shaped pizzas. Slice fruit stuck on skewers and placed in a vase on the table to look like a flower plan is also a nice touch.
Serve dips in sauces in sugar bowls and creamers to add to your Tea Party theme.
For dessert make individual cupcakes or cookies with the phrase “Eat Me” on them.
Games and Activities
You’ll definitely want to have a few games and activities to retain the party rolling right along.
Here are a couple of ideas that are within the Mad Hatter Tea Theme.
Make Your Own Aroused Hat
Purchase a variety of traditional hats at a thrift shop or garage sale and have a variety of materials such as feathers, fake flowers, pom, poms and ribbon on hand to decorate the hats with. Let your child’s guests buy their current trim to decorate their hat to wear to the tea party with. Later award a ribbon to the best Mad hat.
Pin The Tail On The Cheshire Cat
Make a large Cheshire Cat and several tails out of poster board. Stick the tailless cat on a wall in the party room.Blindfold children one at a time and give each a tail with tape stuck to it and have them try to stick the tail in the correct status on the Cheshire Cat. The person who gets closest to where the tail actually goes is the winner.
Fudderwacking Freeze Dance
In the movie Alice in Wonderland, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter does a crazy dance called the Fudderwack. Put on some music and have the children do their craziest Fudderwack dance whenever the music stops they will need to freeze in whatever crazy position they are in. Anyone who doesn’t freeze or moves during the freeze is out. Start the music again and continue until you have one child left who is the Fudderwack Freeze Champion.
Music
Some ideas for music to play during your party are the sound track to the Alice and Wonderland movie, ‘White Rabbit’ by Jefferson Airplane,’Down the Rabbit Hole’ by Adam Lambert, ‘Sunshine’ by Aerosmith and ‘Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum’ by Bob Dylan.
Favors
Filled tea cups effect a great take home favor for a Mad Hatter themed party. Purchase several tea cups at a thrift store or yard sale and fill with chocolate candy hearts, a small pack of playing cards, pink flamingo bubbles or a pink flamingo bendable plastic figure and some smiling can wax lips. Wrap filled teacups in clear or red cellophane wrap, tie closed with a ribbon and hot glue either a white or red spurious rose onto the middle of the ribbon.
The most important thing to remember when planning a Mad Hatter’s Tea is to have fun with it and secure as crazy as you want with both the food and decor after all “We’re all mad here”.
